Nagpur/Akola: Many parts of Nagpur received light rainfall accompanied by thunder lightning and gusty winds on Monday evening, transforming an otherwise warm night into a cool and breezy one.The sudden change in weather brought much-needed relief to citizens after a sweltering day, with temperatures soaring to around 40°C, typical of late March heat in the city. As clouds gathered and showers set in, a pleasant drop in temperature was felt across several localities in the evening.Earlier, the India Meteorological Department had issued an Orange Alert warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and light rainfall with wind speeds reaching 40-60 kmph in parts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur.The brief spell of rain is expected to offer temporary respite from the ongoing heatwave conditions gripping the region.Akola, which recorded maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius during the day, received rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the night. In Amravati district’s Melghat region, heavy showers were recorded as early as the afternoon, catching farmers off guard. The unseasonal rain reportedly caused damage to Rabi crops. Farmers also reported losses to onion and watermelon crops.
