GURGAON: The municipal corporation of Manesar (MCM) has identified three sites in Nainwal, Harsaru and Sector 6 to be developed as construction and demolition (C&D) waste collection centres. The civic body is hiring two agencies, one for developing the sites and another for transporting the waste.Officials said the project will include installation of pre-coated galvanised iron sheets, precast boundary walls and facilities for segregation and transportation of waste.A tender has been floated to develop the site at an estimated cost of Rs 2.1 crore, while another worth Rs 99 lakh has been floated to hire an agency for transporting the waste to the designated locations. MCM is currently sending its C&D waste to Basai plant that comes under the jurisdiction of MCG.MCM commissioner Pradeep Singh said tenders have been issued for the collection and management of C&D waste in the corporation area. “Three sites have been identified and work on the ground will begin soon,” he said.Meanwhile, the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) is planning to set up a dedicated C&D waste processing plant in collaboration with a private company with a capacity of 100 tonnes per day.Officials said the move is aimed at curbing illegal dumping of construction debris and ensuring scientific disposal of waste, which will help protect the environment and keep the city clean. For the C&D waste generated in the areas falling under the MCG’s jurisdiction, the Haryana govt in Aug last year approved the long-pending proposal to enhance the capacity of the Basai C&D waste plant from 300 metric tonnes per day (TPD) to 1,200 TPD for one year.According to MCG estimates, the city generates nearly 1,500–2,000 tonnes of C&D waste daily. The MCM officials, however, said that a survey is currently underway to ascertain the quantity of C&D waste generated. The MCG has already identified Beagmpur Khatola, Babupur, and Daultabad as the sites where C&D waste collection points are being established.
