NOIDA: Three men were arrested by a team from Knowledge Park police station for an alleged murder. Police said they killed a man by running him over with a car and attempted to disguise it as a road accident before dumping his body.Police found the body on a deserted dirt road near an underpass close to Safipur village, adjacent to a cremation ground. The injuries on the body of the victim, later identified as Amit alias Bhonchu, and the area where the body was found made the police suspicious about the nature of the crime. After looking into CCTV footage of the adjacent areas, police zeroed in that it was murder and traced the Maruti Eeco that was used to dump the body.
The car belonged to Amarpal. An FIR under sections 103(1) (murder), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS was registered at Knowledge Park police station. Amarpal, Amit Kumar and Sunny were arrested on Sunday, and the Eeco van, along with a metal wrench believed to be the murder weapon, three mobile phones and an illegal firearm with a live cartridge, were seized from their possession.Police said the murder stemmed from an old dispute related to a Pocso case. In 2022, a case was filed against Amit for allegedly raping Amarpal’s minor niece. He was released on bail in 2024. However, he allegedly continued to chase and tease the teenager.Investigators found that the three men were on a trip to Bageshwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh on March 23 when Amarpal was informed that Amit had been spotted loitering around their home. The men hatched a plan to take revenge for the purported crimes committed against his niece. Following this, he switched off his mobile phone.On March 25, they encountered Amit near Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. They had a brief but heated exchange of words, and Amit allegedly tried to flee towards Zero Point. Amarpal got into his van and chased him down before running him over with the intention to kill.Then they put Amit inside the car and took him to a secluded area. The men assaulted him with a metal wrench, striking his head multiple times. In the end, they dumped his body near the cremation ground.Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway.
