Panchkula: In a suspected case of honour killing, a man was allegedly murdered by his brother-in-law, who was angered by the victim’s love marriage with his sister. The main accused and his accomplice have been arrested, police said on Monday.According to investigators, the victim, Shivam, had married Golu about three months ago against her family’s wishes. The girl’s brother, also named Shivam, was reportedly upset over the relationship and harboured a grudge. Police said the accused, along with his associate Rahul, plotted to eliminate the victim. The victim and the main accused were once close friends and originally hailed from Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh, police added.The murder took place on Monday morning when Shivam went to drop his mother at Industrial Area, Phase-1. While returning, he was intercepted near the Sector-19 roundabout, where the accused were allegedly lying in wait. Armed with a gandasa, they attacked him repeatedly. He was rushed to the Sector-6 civil hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.Following the attack, both accused fled the spot. Police teams from Dial 112, the crime scene unit, Sector-20 police station, and the Sector-19 police outpost were immediately pressed into action.Teams led by inspector Sombir Dhaka tracked the suspects and arrested them within two hours from Zirakpur in Punjab. The accused were identified as Shivam (20) and Rahul (19), both delivery workers. Police also recovered the blood-stained gandasa used in the crime.Officials said the accused will be produced before a court and taken on police remand to probe the source of the weapon and ascertain whether any other persons were involved in the conspiracy.
