SALEM: A group of DMK members on Monday held a road blockade opposing the allocation of the Uthangarai constituency in Krishnagiri district to Congress. In Salem district, another group of DMK members held a road blockade protesting the party’s choice of candidate in Veerapandi constituency.In Uthangarai, DMK workers argued that AIADMK had won the seat in three consecutive elections and that DMK could win this time only if the party fielded its own candidate. They said DMK alliance parties had previously contested there and lost. The road blockage protest was held at the four-way junction, led by supporters of State Women’s Commission member Dr Malathi Narayanasamy. They demanded that the DMK leadership reconsider the decision to allocate the Uthangarai constituency to Congress.In Veerapandi constituency, DMK is fielding the state deputy secretary of party IT wing Dr A K Tharun. Veerapandi union secretary Vennila Sekar resigned from her post on Sunday opposing this. More than one hundred volunteers from the constituency held a road blockage protest near the residence of Salem East district secretary and Rajya Sabha member S R Sivalingam. They demanded that Parapatty Suresh Kumar be declared as the party candidate in the constituency.
