Jaipur: Jaipur RTO-II Sunday seized 30 overloaded vehicles during an enforcement drive on routes linking Jaipur with Mahla, Jobner, Nawa and Kuchaman. The vehicles were carrying salt, stone and powder. Overloading on commercial vehicles is a key cause of accidents on roads.Checks also revealed pending tax dues on several vehicles. Officials said the crackdown will continue till March 31.A joint team comprising district transport officer Yashpal Yadav and transport inspectors Bhupendra Dabal, Bhartendu Pachauri, Rajesh Chaudhary, intercepted vehicles entering the city. A mechanic was deployed to remove unauthorised modifications made for overloading in commercial vehicles or carrying extra passengers in vehicles like maxi cab, auto-rickshaw or other small passenger vehicles.Officials said that all vehicles were seized in accordance with statutory regulations and handed over to various designated locations, including the Jobner Police Station and other local police stations.“This operation was conducted from 8pm on Saturday till 9am. During the drive, several drivers of overloaded vehicles abandoned their vehicles on roads and left; these vehicles were subsequently safely secured with the assistance of GPS mechanics and trained reserve drivers. This special enforcement drive is expected to generate revenue of approximately Rs 20 lakhs,” said Chaudhary.Officials said this week action will be initiated to suspend the driving licences of the drivers of these overloaded vehicles. Additionally, notices will be issued regarding the suspension of permits for the respective vehicles involved.“Strict legal action will be taken against vehicles found to have undergone unauthorised structural modifications, such as the addition of leaf springs to the suspension system or the illegal extension of the vehicle body, specifically for the purpose of facilitating overloaded transport,” he added.
