Ahmedabad: A woman from Chandkheda called Abhayam helpline after her husband took away their 7-year-old daughter in an inebriated condition and then switched the phone off. The team tracked the man and got the woman united with the daughter.“The woman told us that she works in a private hospital and has a marriage period of nine years. Due to the husband’s drinking habits, she started living with her in-laws at a separate residence and sustained them through her job. On Friday, when she was not at home, her husband came and, after a quarrel with parents, got hold of the daughter and left,” said a counsellor.Panic-stricken, the woman checked at his residence, but they were not found at home. She then contacted all possible relatives and visited their homes in the vicinity but could not find him and her daughter. The woman suspected that the in-laws might be involved in the incident and then approached her father-in-law’s sister in Meghaninagar. The duo was found there. She told the helpline that she did not feel safe with the in-laws anymore and decided to shift to a friend’s home.“The woman said that she did not want to press charges, but wanted to ensure that he did not harass her or her daughter,” said the counsellor.
