Kolkata: Denied a ticket for the 2026 assembly polls, Baduria MLA Kazi Abdur Rahim quit Trinamool on Sunday, reports Sanjib Chakraborty. Sources said he might join Congress and contest from the same seat.Announcing his decision in a Facebook post, Rahim claimed there was growing factionalism in TMC and conspiracy was afoot targeting loyal netas in the districts.TMC had carried out sweeping changes across six assembly constituencies in the Basirhat organisational district, and denied tickets to MLAs of Sandeshkhali, Basirhat North, Basirhat South, Haroa, Hingalganj and Baduria. Burhanul Muqaddim Liton was picked as the Baduria candidate.Reacting to this, ex-minister Jyotipriya Mallick said: “The party’s decision is final when it comes to selecting candidates. If someone leaves the party due to personal dissatisfaction, even if he is an MLA… it won’t affect TMC.”
