Dibrugarh: National BJP president Nitin Nabin on Sunday launched an energetic campaign blitz in Assam’s Tinsukia district, addressing a massive rally at the Ledo Bazar High School playground in Margherita in support of sitting BJP MLA and party candidate Bhaskar Sharma. Declaring that BJP is poised for a historic third consecutive victory in the state, Nabin exuded confidence in the party’s prospects under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.“The people of Assam have seen what genuine governance looks like. Under the dynamic leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam is on an unstoppable march forward. I am fully confident that the people of this great state will bless the BJP with a historic hat trick in these elections,” Nabin declared before a charged crowd.
Nabin paid rich tributes to the developmental journey of Assam, crediting both former CM Sarbananda Sonowal and incumbent CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for transforming the state. He drew a parallel between Assam’s growth story and India’s larger trajectory under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decade-long governance.“When Narendra Modi became Prime Minister twelve years ago, he gave this nation two powerful commitments — Vikas and Vishwas, development and trust. Today, every Indian can see those promises fulfilled in the roads we travel, the hospitals we visit and the pride we feel as citizens of a rising India. And right here in Assam, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has carried that same spirit forward. The double-engine govt is not just a slogan — it is a reality that has reached every panchayat and every village,” he said.Highlighting Assam’s strategic importance in India’s foreign policy vision, Nabin highlighted the state’s pivotal role in Prime Minister Modi’s Act East Policy.“PM Modi has always believed that the future of India’s growth lies in its east. Assam is not just a state — it is the gateway to the whole of South East Asia. By investing in Assam’s infrastructure, connectivity and peace, we are not just developing a state, we are opening doors for the entire nation,” he stated. The BJP president also drew a sharp contrast between the present and the past, pointing to the peace and stability that he said had come with BJP governance. “Let us not forget what Assam looked like before 2016. There was violence on the streets, agitation at every corner and uncertainty in every household. The BJP came to power and brought with it the gift of peace and progress. Today, the youth of Assam and the Northeast do not need to leave their homes and travel to distant states in search of education or a livelihood. Opportunities have come to their doorstep,” he said.Nabin also took pointed jabs at rival parties on several fronts, including the issue of infiltration.“There are parties in this country that have built their vote banks on the backs of infiltrators, parties that look the other way when the demographic fabric of our border states is being torn apart. The BJP does not play that game. We will never compromise the security and identity of Assam’s people for the sake of votes,” he said. He also defended his party’s clean governance record, asserting that not a single corruption charge stood against any BJP minister. On economic management, Nabin credited the Modi govt with shielding citizens from the impact of rising global fuel prices by reducing taxes on petroleum products. He also lauded the Centre’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. “When the world was brought to its knees by Covid-19, it was Narendra Modi’s govt that stood like a rock for the people of India. We delivered vaccines to every corner of this vast nation at a speed that stunned the world. And while other parties locked themselves indoors, BJP workers were out on the streets, serving the people, feeding the hungry and standing by those in need,” he said.Earlier in the day, after his arrival, Nabin joined party workers from Booth Numbers 135 and 137 at Mohanbari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh to listen to Prime Minister Modi’s radio programme, Mann Ki Baat.Following the Margherita rally, Nabin was set to address another public meeting at Jonai in Dhemaji district later in the day. He was also scheduled to attend a meeting of BJP workers from Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts at Gogamukh in Dhemaji.
