Chandigarh: After cases of double billing in March, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) is under the scanner again for not depositing house rent allowance (HRA) of UT employees transferred to CPDL. Besides, CPDL has not deposited over Rs 9 lakh licence fee of the transferred employees to the Chandigarh administration.Raising these issues, the UT engineering department has written two letters to the director, CPDL, asking him to deposit the money at the earliest to avoid any complications and audit objection. The fresh letters were sent in the wake of inaction by CPDL to the UT, which repeatedly flagged the issue. In one letter, sent on March 19, UT executive engineer writes, “In continuation to this office memo and subsequent reminder, addressed to your company, it was requested to deposit the house rent allowance of all the employees who are residing at govt accommodation of the electricity pool from Feb 2025 to till date alongwith complete detail of the employees through demand draft in favour of this office so as to avoid any complications later on. But it is pertinent to mention here that nothing is received from your office till date. Further, the Chandigarh Administration has notified the Chandigarh Electricity Reforms Transfer Scheme (First Amendment) Scheme, 2026 dated 30.01.2026 for finalisation of assets and liabilities and the govt accommodation of EWED has not transferred to your company. In view of the above, it is therefore again requested to kindly deposit the house rent alongwith complete detail of the employees through demand draft in favour of this office so as to avoid any complications later on please.” Another letter, regarding the licence fee to the CPDL director on March 20 reads, “The various employees, retirees deposited the licence fee in the E-Sampark Centre in favour of his office during 01.02.2025 to 15.09.2025. After reconciliation of the above payments with the treasury, UT, Chandigarh, it is found that the amount of rupees 9,17,012 has been credited on the company’s account by the E-Sampark Centre as per previous practice. Accordingly, it was requested to refund the amount of rupees 9,17,012/- (Rs Nine Lac Seventeen Thousand & Twelve Only) through DD in favour of ‘AEE Electricity Store, Sub-Division, Indi. Area PH-1, Chandigarh’ at the earliest, so as to avoid any complications, audit objection later on. But it is pertinent to mention here that nothing is received by this office till date. In view of the above, it is therefore again requested to kindly refund the amount.” When contacted, Arun Kumar Verma, director, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL), did not reply to TOI.
