This is the one of most major reshuffles in the recent past after the announcement of assembly polls and change of Chief Secretary, DGP and CPs. Among the significant ones are OCs of Bhabanipur, Kalighat and violence prone Bhangar under Kolkata Police have also been transferred, among others.
The Commission has made transfer/ postings of Coochbehar’s four OC/ICs -Sitalkuchi, Mathabhanga, Dinhata and Ghoksadanga. These Police Stations are violence prone and borderding, with four persons having died following CAPF firing during poll-day violence in Sitalkuchi, where the polling booth was allegedly attacked in the 2021 assembly polls.
ECI has also issued new postings/ transfers of 184 OCs/ICs, from Coochbehar to Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia districts, including nine in Purba Medinipur. The 83 BDOs/AROs changes have been made in several districts, including Coochebehar, Malda, Murshidabad, North and South 24 Parganas, and many other districts with significant numbers in Purba Midnapore, ahead of the Assembly polls, to ensure violence-free and transparency in assembly polls.
Among the list of 83 BDOs/AROs, 15 changes of BDOs/AROs have been made in Purba Medinipur, including two in Nandigram. Leader of Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari is fighting from Nandigram assembly Constituency and has defeated West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the seat.
During the Full bench meeting in Bengal, CEC Gynaesh Kumarled ECI full bench had sought detailed report from the West Bengal government about the “definite” actions taken against the officers-in-charge (OCs) and supervisor level officers in connection with the pre-poll, poll and post-poll violence-related incidents during the 2021 assembly polls and 2024 Lok Sabha polls, in which people were injured or died.
Fourth Supplementary List
Altogether 40 lakh adjudication cases have been disposed of by the judicial officers out of total 60.6 lakhs adjudicated cases, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal told ET. Meanwhile, the Fourth Supplementary List is likely to be released on Sunday, after adjudication by 705 judicial officers.
“There will be two lakh names in the fourth list tonight, a top EC official said.
Online appeal process, for those whose names have been deleted, can be done in the Appellate Tribunals have started, the CEO confirmed.
CAPF suspension
Three CAPF jawans were suspended by ECI in BIrbhum’s Suri for playing carrom inside TMC party office and Departmental Proceedings will be started against them. The Commission has given clear directives that CAPF will not take any hospitality from anyone and stringent actions will be taken if done otherwise.
