Lucknow: A man was allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire by his neighbour over a monetary dispute in Aliganj. The victim sustained burn injuries to his ear, back and hand and is currently undergoing treatment at a govt hospital. The incident came to light on Saturday after the FIR was registered.According to a written complaint submitted by the victim’s sister, the incident took place on Mar 25 when her brother, Rakesh Yadav, was returning home after work. While passing through the Moongfali Mandi area, he was allegedly intercepted by a youth identified as Balgar, a local resident.In her complaint, she stated that the accused demanded money from her brother. When Rakesh refused, an argument broke out, following which the accused allegedly assaulted him. The situation escalated when Balgar reportedly took out a bottle of petrol, poured it on Rakesh, and set him on fire.Family members immediately alerted police by dialling emergency services, after which the injured was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.Police have registered a case under the charges of BNS 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 287 (negligent conduct with fire) based on the complaint and initiated an investigation into the incident.Confirming the development, Aliganj police station in-charge Dhruv Kumar said that both parties were known to each other and the incident appears to have stemmed from a dispute. “The victim is under treatment. We are verifying all facts and further legal action will be taken accordingly,” he said.Kumar said that both were initially friends, but a financial dispute broke out between them. “Balgar will go to jail as per prima facie evidence and a probe is being conducted,” he said.
