Jaipur: As the kharif season approaches, Rajasthan govt has assured farmers of adequate availability of urea and other key fertilizers, even as it steps up monitoring to curb hoarding and black marketing. Officials Saturday said the state currently has a strong stock position, particularly of urea, at 3.67 lakh metric tonnes—higher than last year’s levels. The authorities maintained that alongside comfortable stock levels, strict vigilance mechanisms are being put in place to ensure timely and equitable distribution among farmers.“The state currently has 3.67 lakh MT of urea, 0.82 lakh MT of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate), 0.66 lakh MT of NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium), and 1.94 lakh MT of SSP (Single Super Phosphate),” an official said, adding that the availability is sufficient to meet initial demand.Chairing a review meeting recently, agriculture minister Kirori Lal Meena had emphasised strict enforcement. “We will not allow black marketing of fertilizers. Checkposts have been set up in border districts for strict monitoring, and surprise inspections will be intensified under the Essential Commodities Act,” the minister said.Meena added that there had been no major shortage even during the rabi season and expressed confidence that procurement for kharif would remain smooth. “The Centre has also ensured adequate supply. There should not be any major issue in availability,” he said. For kharif 2026, the Centre has allocated 11 lakh metric tonnes of urea to Rajasthan.Officials have been directed to promote balanced use of fertilizers to reduce overdependence on urea. Farmers are being encouraged to adopt alternatives such as SSP and NPK, along with scientific nutrient management practices. With adequate stock and stricter oversight, the state govt aims to ensure a hassle-free kharif season while preventing supply distortions, officials said.
