Jaisalmer: Barmer MP Ummedaram Beniwal raised the alarm in Lok Sabha Friday over the rapid, unregulated expansion of power transmission lines across Rajasthan’s farmlands. Speaking during Zero Hour, he urged the central govt to halt the “injustice” against farmers and ensure fair compensation for their land.Beniwal highlighted the surge of large-scale solar projects in border districts like Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Bikaner and said this has led to aggressive transmission line expansion by private and state companies, including Powergrid and Starlight. He argued that compensating farmers based on official govt rates (DLC) rather than the much higher actual market value is severely unjust, causing heavy financial losses and creating a livelihood crisis.Condemning the “arbitrariness and negligence” of the companies and local administration, Beniwal noted that lines are being laid through residential settlements (dhanis), school grounds, and water bodies without permission, posing severe health and safety risks to residents and children. tnn
