GURGAON: Five workers living in a rented accommodation in Kherki Majra village have sustained 30 to 40 % burns after a 5 kg LPG cylinder exploded on Friday. They were rushed to the civil hospital from where they were referred to AIIMS Delhi. They are currently under treatment.According to police and hospital officials, six workers who belong to the same family from Bihar had rented out the room from a local named Bittu. The incident occurred around 9 pm when one of the workers had stepped out to buy flour. The others were cooking on a small cylinder inside the room.Police suspect that a gas leak triggered a sudden fire. It caused the cylinder to explode. Flames engulfed the workers within moments, leaving them critically injured.Neighbours rushed them to the civil hospital. Doctors referred them to AIIMS Delhi due to the severity of their burn injuries. They said the victims are aged between 30 and 35 years.A team from the Dhankot chowki reached the scene and launched an investigation. Police said the exact cause is being looked into. Family members of the injured workers have been informed.Suresh, the sixth occupant of the room, said he had gone out to buy flour when the incident happened. “We returned from work in the evening. We were cooking food and I went to the market while others were preparing the vegetables. When I returned, I saw my three brothers and two nephews injured due to the blast”, he said.This incident has raised concerns over safety conditions in cramped rented accommodations, where migrant workers often live and cook in confined spaces using small LPG cylinders.
