Prayagraj: In a major push to provide housing for the urban poor, authorities in Prayagraj are planning to construct over 1,000 flats under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Phase II.The initiative is being spearheaded by the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), which has begun the process of identifying the land that would be provided by the municipal corporation and the district administration. The PDA has already initiated correspondence with the departments concerned to expedite the process. Several locations have been shortlisted for the project, including a 4,000sqm plot near Dhobighat, around four bighas in Peepal Gaon and approximately 3,000sqm in the Khuldabad area. Talks are also underway to arrange land in the Civil Lines area, with discussions being held between PDA vice-chairman Rishiraj and municipal commissioner Sai Teja. According to officials, the land allocation is expected to be finalised soon. The project is expected to provide much-needed relief to economically weaker sections who do not own a house in the city. Authorities said the application process is already underway, with nearly 1,000 beneficiaries registering online through the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA). Once the flats are constructed, priority in allotment will be given to these applicants.
