Shillong: CM Conrad K Sangma on Saturday reflected on Meghalaya’s “transformative journey marked by resilience, stability and inclusive growth” on the completion of eight years of the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) govt.Marking the occasion with an event on the theme ‘Our Magnificent Meghalaya’ at the Polo Grounds in Shillong, the CM and his ministerial colleagues distributed welfare schemes to farmers, nature conservators, and entrepreneurs amounting to Rs 129.81 crore.“In the last five years, the MDA govt has spent over Rs 500 crore in welfare schemes, directly making a difference in the lives of farmers, entrepreneurs, youth and communities,” Sangma, who is also president of the NPP, said.A key pillar of progress in the state, the CM said, was political stability, enabling consistent governance and long-term planning. “Without stability, development is not possible. Over the last eight years, we have ensured a stable political environment that allowed us to pursue our vision and take decisions in the best interest of the state,” he said.“Significant investments have been made across sectors, with 1,576 projects initiated in the Khasi Hills and approximately Rs 21,000 crore worth of projects in the Jaintia Hills,” he said.On initiatives in the education sector, he said nearly one lakh students have benefited from scholarships, receiving Rs 6,000 each, amounting to Rs 60 crore. “Environmental conservation has been a priority, with Rs 120 crore allocated under the Green Meghalaya initiative to support communities in preserving forests,” Sangma said.
