Hyderabad: Telangana officials have backed their assurances of having sufficient fuel stock with numbers even as there were scattered instances of people queuing up at fuel stations.According to the latest data released by state authorities, supplies of both petrol and diesel comfortably exceed the demand, with smooth distribution across districts. Petrol has recorded an average daily supply of 5,883 kilolitres, indicating steady availability. However, what caught attention was a surge on Thursday, when 16,609 KL petrol was dispatched in a single day. Officials attribute this spike not to supply stress, but to precautionary buying by consumers amid rumours, and insist any concerns over petrol or LPG availability are misplaced.LPG numbers across Telangana also reflect stability with data from oil marketing companies showing 2,19,980 cylinders delivered on Wednesday, slightly above the average supply of 2,15,151. Among suppliers, IOCL led deliveries with 92,799 cylinders, followed by HPCL at 81,979 and BPCL at 45,202, all operating within normal capacity.Diesel showed even stronger resilience. The state maintained an average daily supply of 7,348 kl, while a significantly higher 19,580 kl was distributed on Wednesday. The overall fuel situation remains under control with petrol supply exceeding demand by 182% and diesel by 167%. M Prabhakar Reddy, president of All India Petroleum Dealers’ Association, said the rush at fuel stations has eased. He said the temporary withdrawal of the credit system had triggered the situation, as several petrol pump owners were unable to arrange working capital at short notice and displayed ‘no fuel’ boards. This, in turn, led to panic among consumers. He, however, clarified that there is no shortage of fuel. “India has sufficient stocks, and there is absolutely no need for panic buying.” Normalcy has returned to fuel stations with a few instances of motorists queuing up in the city. “I saw a few people filling full tanks, so I came just to be safe,” said K Kiran, a commuter waiting at a bunk in Safilguda. “But there was no panic as such; things looked normal.”An auto driver in the same queue said, “We are getting fuel without any problem. There was a little rush at some places, that is all.”
