Coimbatore: Post offices and the passport office in Coimbatore received hoax bomb threats on Friday morning.Staff at the head post office on Goods Shed Road noticed an email in which the sender claimed that explosives, including RDX and poisonous gas, would be detonated on the premises of the post offices on Goods Shed Road and DB Road. The message also warned officials to evacuate innocent people from the campus.A similar bomb threat email was received at the Passport Seva Kendra on Avinashi Road. Officials immediately alerted the city police, who deployed the bomb detection and disposal squad along with a K9 unit to both locations.Police personnel carried out an extensive search at all the threatened premises. After about an hour of inspection, they found no suspicious objects or explosives and declared the threats to be hoax.The incident caused concern among staff and visitors at the affected offices, but normalcy was restored soon after the search operations were completed.
