Chandigarh: Daljit Singh, general manager of the Ludhiana District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, and two other managers were placed under suspension with immediate effect after the Indian Army rejected two consignments of Milkfed’s milk powder for non-compliance with the prescribed quality standards.Separate suspension orders have been issued for Paritosh Mishra, production manager, and Guriqbal Singh, quality manager.The order issued by Milkfed managing director Rahul Gupta on Friday stated: “As disciplinary proceedings are contemplated, the responsible official is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect under Rule 62.1 (i).”“The Indian Army rejected two consignments of milk powder (58.338 metric tonnes and 66.654 metric tonnes) supplied by the Milk Union, Ludhiana, due to the presence of extraneous material in the samples. This apparent grave lapse in quality control compromised the credibility of the organisation and constitutes ‘major misconduct’, neglect of work or negligence in the performance of duties, an act prejudicial to the organisation under the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Employees Rules, 2023,” read the order.The Indian Army rejected a consignment of whole milk powder supplied by Milkfed’s Ludhiana unit for being non-compliant with the prescribed standards. The rejection of nearly 125 metric tonnes has been conveyed in a letter from the Officer Commanding of an Army Service Corps (ASC) unit based in Jammu to the Ludhiana District Cooperative Milk Producers Union.Copies of the communication have also been forwarded to the chief director of Purchase and the Food Inspection Organisation under the Union ministry of defence.
