Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday accused BJP’s Ravneet Singh Bittu and Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal of stalling the release of the ‘Bandhi Singhs’ (Sikh detainees).Warring claimed that the two parliamentarians were repeatedly meeting Union home minister Amit Shah and opposing their release.Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Warring demanded that all the ‘Bandhi Singhs’ who had completed their jail sentences be released in accordance with the law of the country. He said not only the ‘Bandhi Singhs’, but all those who had completed their sentences and were still languishing in different jails across the country, must be immediately released. The Congress leader said while the Constitution and the law mandated strict punishment for any crime, they also made it clear that all those who completed their sentences should be released from jail.Later, in an informal conversation with the reporters outside Parliament, Warring claimed that he had credible information that Bittu and Harsimrat Badal were regularly meeting the Union home minister and opposing the release of ‘Bandhi Singhs’.He noted that the two MPs, representing the BJP and the Akali Dal, apparently wanted to keep the issue alive to exploit it during the elections. The Punjab Congress chief also pointed out that their public posturing on the issue was completely different from what they were seeking privately. MSID:: 129846113 413 |
