Canacona: Residents of Canacona fear a proliferation of the drug trade and worry that students may be drawn into the network.Former chairperson of Canacona Municipal Council Dayananad Pagui said drug peddling is more evident in some areas. “Police need to come down heavily on peddlers. Not just college students, but even some high school students are consuming drugs. Some of them will eventually start peddling as well,” said Pagui.Another local said parties are held in secluded areas of Agonda and Palolem.Earlier this year, Canacona police conducted multiple raids and seized drugs. A foreigner and two locals were arrested.“Arresting small-time peddlers will not help. There needs to be a regular crackdown on drugs and peddlers,” said Santosh Gaonkar, a local.
