Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Thursday demanded security for the family of Punjab State Warehousing Corporation district manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, who died by suicide in Amritsar. In a video message, Jakhar alleged that supporters of former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar were still raising slogans in his favour and claimed the govt had made “no arrangements” for the safety of Randhawa’s family. He also said no official had visited the family to offer condolences.Backing Randhawa’s wife, Jakhar said she belonged to an “honest and truthful family” and was courageously fighting for justice. “She has not bowed before govt pressure and is fearlessly fighting for justice for her husband, knowing that he was a truthful and honest individual,” he said.Jakhar said that in view of the slogans allegedly being raised by the former minister’s supporters and social media posts projecting the influence of the minister’s family in govt, the need to ensure the family’s safety had become more urgent.Appealing to Punjabis to unite in support of the family, Jakhar said justice must be ensured for “an honest officer” and those responsible should face exemplary punishment. “If justice is not delivered to Gagandeep Singh Randhawa today, then tomorrow no one will stand for honesty in the state or the country,” he said.He added that the BJP would continue to stand with the family until justice was delivered.
