Coimbatore: A 58-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, for allowing foreign nationals to stay illegally in his apartment. Police also detained five foreign nationals who were staying illegally after their visas had expired.The arrested has been identified as A Mohammed Aslam, 58, of Kumaran Nagar on Chettipalayam Road near Podanur in the city. He was apprehended after Sundarapuram police conducted a search at Aslam Residency on Wednesday, following a tip-off. “There were over 30 houses in the apartment complex owned by Aslam, and he had rented it out mostly to foreign nationals from Sudan, Cambodia, Syria, and Uganda. Most are students at a private college in the city,” said a police officer. He added that five foreign nationals were found to be staying illegally after their visas had expired. While they were detained, Aslam was booked under sections 8, 23, and 24 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act for not maintaining Form C, which is mandatory for owners who host foreigners on their premises. He was later produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. Further process is on to deport the detained foreigners.
