T’puram: Kerala Police has initiated legal action following the circulation of an AI-generated video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that allegedly portrayed the Prime Minister and constitutional authorities, including Election Commission of India (ECI), in a misleading and defamatory manner during the ongoing assembly election process. According to an official statement, the content was flagged through institutional channels, including inputs from ECI. Upon verification, authorities found that the video had the potential to mislead the public, undermine the credibility of constitutional bodies, and adversely affect the conduct of free and fair elections. Acting in line with model code of conduct and relevant legal provisions, the state police’s cyber operations wing moved swiftly to curb the spread of the content. Legal notices were issued to the intermediary platform under provisions of the IT Act and associated rules, seeking immediate removal of the material. A case has been registered at the Cyber Crime police station in Thiruvananthapuram against an X account identified as Laxmi N Raju (@valiant_Raju), along with other parties concerned. Police said an investigation is underway to determine responsibility and take action in accordance with the law. Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process, Kerala Police said it would continue to take prompt, lawful and impartial action against any attempts to disrupt or influence elections. The public has been urged to exercise caution and avoid creating, sharing or amplifying unverified or misleading content, particularly during the election period.
