Mangaluru: With Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) functioning without an elected council, Dakshina Kannada DC Darshan HV, also the MCC administrator, Thursday presented the 2026-27 budget with an outlay of Rs 937.6 crore and a projected surplus of Rs 156.1 crore.The budget size has been reduced by Rs 32.7 crore from Rs 970.4 crore in 2025-26. Expected revenue has also declined from Rs 644.6 crore in 2025-26 to Rs 629.8 crore in 2026-27.“Resource mobilisation is essential for the effective functioning of any institution. Hence, the city corporation has taken several stringent measures for resource mobilisation,” he said.126% achievementThe MCC had set a target of Rs 121.6 crore from property tax, khata transfer and extract fees, and advertisement fees in 2025-26. As of March 25, it had collected Rs 141.1 crore, achieving 126% of the target. The corporation has set a target of Rs 127.8 crore for 2026-27, the DC said.The corporation has identified 2.2 lakh properties and digitised the data on the property tax portal. Of these, 1.7 lakh property owners have been paying tax online. Surveys to boost property tax collection have been completed in three wards.
