Patna: A speeding car crashed into a divider on the Bihta-Sarmera two-lane road in Nalanda district late Wednesday night, killing a sales officer with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The accident occurred near Malawan village under Sarmera police station area. The victim, along with his wife and mother-in-law, was travelling from Bakhtiyarpur to Sheikhpura when the accident took place. The car lost control while attempting to overtake at a sharp turn and collided with the divider.The deceased was identified as Sumit Kumar (36), a resident of Sikariya village under Chandi police station area in Nalanda district. Sumit was travelling from Bakhtiyarpur to Sheikhpura with his wife Astha Kumari to drop his ailing mother-in-law Vibha Devi. Near Malawan village, while attempting to overtake another vehicle at a sharp turn, the car went out of control and crashed into the divider. The impact of the collision was severe and the car was badly damaged, resulting in Sumit’s death on the spot.Sumit was posted as a sales officer at HPCL in Begusarai and lived there with his family. With the help of local people, police immediately admitted the injured wife and mother-in-law to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sarmera. Considering their critical condition, doctors referred them to Patna for better treatment.Sarmera SHO Sakendra Kumar Bind said, “Upon receiving information about the road accident, the police team reached the spot and rushed the injured to the hospital. The post-mortem of the body was conducted and handed over to the family members. The vehicle went out of control while overtaking at a turning and collided with the divider. Investigation into the matter is underway.”
