Gurgaon/ Bengaluru: An ad professional from Shivamogga died by suicide after jumping from the 13th floor of a hotel in Gurgaon in the early hours of Wednesday.The victim, Anand Subbarao, 54, was residing on Sohna Road in Sector 49. He was a partner in And And Brand Partners, a private advertising and brand company. Police said he checked into the hotel in Sector 63 on Tuesday. A suicide note was found at the spot. “He was residing alone in Gurgaon. In his suicide note, he cited personal reasons (for taking the extreme step) and did not accuse anyone, attributing the death to mental distress,” a police officer said. Police personnel, along with a forensic team, and investigation units, visited the spot after being alerted by the hotel staff.CCTV footage from the hotel has been examined, and police said no suspicious circumstances were found, adding that it was confirmed that he jumped around 4am, and was not pushed.The cremation took place in the presence of his family members at Gurgaon on Thursday afternoon.Adman known for ‘childhood biography’Being the son of a railway employee at the Shivamogga railway station, he grew up in a colony there. After studying PU in Shivamogga, he pursued BBM in Mysuru and MBA in Manipal.Being good in creative English, Anand worked in top ad agencies in Bengaluru and Delhi. He later became a partner in And And and settled in Gurgaon. In 2017, Anand published a book, ‘Half Pants Full Pants’ (HPFP), capturing his childhood in the railway colony, complete with the (mis)adventures of Dabba (Anand’s nickname) and his chuddy-buddies — Banana, Belluli, Guppy, Giddi, Koji, Monty, Avi, Compti, Pandu, Shetty…. In 2022, an OTT platform streamed the ‘childhood biography’ with the same name (HPFP) as a web series, which was well-received.
