Rajkot: Vartej police in Bhavnagar have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife by strangulation after her family refused to accept claims that she died of a heart attack and insisted on an autopsy. The accused, Arjunsinh Parmar, a driver from Sihor taluka, was booked after the autopsy confirmed that his wife, Alpa Parmar, 28, died from strangulation. A case was registered at the Vartej police station under Section 103(1) and other provisions of the BNS, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Jorsang Dodiya. The couple married in 2016, but the relationship had long been troubled. According to the complaint, Arjunsinh was allegedly involved with another woman, which led to persistent domestic disputes, physical abuse, and arguments over household expenses.Alpa’s family was informed of her sudden death on March 19, 2026. Her in-laws initially tried to present the death as a heart attack. However, her family grew suspicious and demanded a post-mortem before cremation. Investigating officer M C Chudasma stated the post-mortem report proved decisive, as it revealed that Alpa had been strangled and turned the accidental death case into a murder investigation.“On the night of March 19, Arjunsinh strangled his wife in their room. He then informed his mother and police that Alpa died of a heart attack,” Chudasma said. The presence of injury marks on Alpa’s neck led to the panel post-mortem that confirmed the cause of death. Parmar confessed to killing his wife as she was against his extramarital affair, police sources said.
