Chennai: After walking away from the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) president T Velmurugan announced on Wednesday that he will not contest in the upcoming assembly election.Velmurugan released a video on social media saying that he will focus on developing the party across the state. “I will not contest in this election. I will travel across the state and will work for the welfare of the party,” Velmurugan said. However, Velmurugan said his party functionaries would contest. Velmurugan won from Panruti constituency in 2021 as a DMK ally. This time, he demanded one more constituency and was planning to contest in Neyveli. As DMK refused to give an additional seat, Velmurugan placed a 10-point charter and announced that he will join the alliance which promises to fulfil them. Since there was no response, he exited the alliance.
