Dimapur: The Nagaland govt has declared April 9, the day of polling for the byelection to Koridang assembly constituency in Mokokchung district, as paid holiday for people who are electors in the constituency and employed in government, banks, financial institutions, private business establishments, industrial undertaking or any other establishment, including the daily wage/casual workers, to enable them to exercise their franchise.In a notification on Wednesday, this provision includes all those electors in the constituency who may be working on shift basis in any establishment or shop.Further, it applies to a person who is ordinarily a resident of the constituency and registered as an elector, but may be serving or employed in an industrial undertaking or an establishment located outside the constituency.In such a situation, even those electors, including casual workers working outside the said constituency, would be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday, the notification said.These provisions, however, will not apply to any elector whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which he or she is engaged.
