Mangaluru: Veterinarians in Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday paid tribute to trainee veterinarian Dr Sameeksha Reddy, who died in a hippopotamus attack at Tyavarekoppa Tiger and Lion Safari in Shivamogga recently, and urged the govt to enhance safety measures and provide compensation to her family.A condolence meeting was held at Dakshina Kannada District Veterinary Association premises in Mangaluru, where members observed a one-minute silence. Addressing the gathering, association president Dr Arun Kumar Shetty N urged the govt to ensure adequate safety precautions and provide necessary technical staff support to veterinarians serving in zoos managed by forest department across state. He also stressed the need for strict adherence to standard operating procedures during treatment across all zoos.The association submitted a memorandum to DC Darshan HV at his office, demanding maximum compensation of Rs 1 crore for the bereaved family.Dr Vasanth Kumar, Dr Ashok KR, Dr Rekha MT, Dr Dharanesh and Dr Kamalesh were present. Meanwhile, veterinarians across the district wore black armbands while performing their duties on the day.
