Prayagraj: Doctors at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital (SRNH) successfully performed a Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery on a 60-year-old patient using the advanced Subvastus Approach technique. The surgery was carried out by a team led by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Anand Kumar.According to doctors, the patient was suffering from severe knee pain and difficulty in walking for a long time. A medical examination revealed advanced-stage osteoarthritis in the knee joint, after which doctors decided to perform a TKR procedure.Explaining the procedure, Dr Anand Kumar said the Subvastus Approach is a muscle-sparing surgical technique in which the surgery is performed without cutting the main thigh muscles. This method reduces post-operative pain, minimises blood loss, and allows faster recovery. One of the major advantages of the technique is that patients can begin walking with support as early as the next day after surgery. The surgical team comprised Dr Saif and Dr Ranjit, with Dr Nitin and Dr Ankit in the the anaesthesia team, informed media in charge of the hospital, Dr Santosh Kumar Singh.Principal of Motilal Nehru Medical College, Dr V K Pandey, congratulated the team for the successful surgery. The patient is expected to resume normal daily activities within a few days as recovery progresses, said the medical team.
