Kanpur: A woman was killed and around 30 passengers were injured after a sleeper bus moving towards Lucknow overturned on Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Bangarmau area of Unnao on Monday morning.Police and UPEIDA teams reached the spot after receiving information and started rescue operations.The accident occurred near Naseerpur village on the expressway when the bus was returning from an event at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.According to sources, the driver dozed off and lost control on the bus. The bus crashed into a divider and overturned killing a woman on the spot while many others got injured. The collision was so severe that the wheels of the bus came off along with the rims. Drivers of vehicles passing nearby informed the police. The police and UPEIDA team, with the help of locals, rescued the passengers trapped inside the bus and the injured were taken to CHC Bangarmau. After primary treatment, all the injured were referred to the district hospital.The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Tarawati, wife of Tribhuvan, a resident of the Gosaiganj area of Lucknow. Around 30 passengers were injured, with some sustaining critical injuries. CO said investigation into the accident has been initiated. “In the preliminary investigation, the driver’s negligence was cited as the main cause of the accident,” he said.
