T’puram: The 50th death anniversary of poet Vayalar Ramavarma will be observed on Oct 27. Marking the occasion, Vayalar Literary Award—instituted in 1979 in his memory—will present its 50th award this year, coinciding with its golden jubilee.To commemorate both milestones, year-long celebrations titled ‘Vayalar Year’ commenced on Oct 27, 2025. As part of the observances, various organizations and institutions across Kerala and beyond have been conducting programmes related to the poet’s legacy at the request of Vayalar Trust. In continuation of the celebrations, G Devarajan Master Foundation will organize its annual ‘Devarajan Ganasandhya’ to mark the remembrance of G Devarajan on Wednesday, coinciding with Vayalar’s birth anniversary. The event will be held at Manaveeyam Veedhi from 6pm onwards. The musical evening will feature performances by noted playback singers including Kavalam Sreekumar, Kallara Gopan, G Sreeram, Ravi Shankar, Rajeev ONV, Vijesh Gopal, Bijoy, Rajalakshmi, Dr Rashmi, Aparna Rajeev, Saritha Rajeev, Athira and Latha George, presenting songs written by Vayalar. As part of the year-long observance, similar ‘Vayalar Ganasandhya’ programmes will be held every month at Manaveeyam Veedhi until Oct 27, with various music organizations taking the lead.
