done Hyderabad: Madhapur police are probing the death of 60-year-old reserve sub-inspector (RSI) Thallapally Raja Sambaiah from the Siddipet Commissionerate following allegations of medical negligence by his family. The gallantry awardee police officer, a resident of Karimnagar, died on Friday after alleged botched treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Hi-Tec City.D Krishna Mohan, station house officer (SHO), Madhapur police station, said, “The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. We are awaiting the report. Further action, including legal opinion on the allegations against the hospital, will be taken based on the findings.”The family of the RSI, alleged that doctors ignored warning signs, performed surgery without adequate evaluation, and delayed critical care. In the FIR accessed by TOI, the family stated that Sambaiah was admitted on March 7 under the Bhadratha Scheme (a welfare scheme for Telangana police personnel) for the removal of a gluteal lump (a lump on the hip) that had existed for years without major complications.“Doctors failed to conduct key pre-operative tests such as MRI or CT scans, despite the patient having hypertension, diabetes, and prior neurological concerns. On March 9, my husband’s blood pressure rose to a critical level, and the anaesthesiologist advised postponing the surgery as it could lead to a brain stroke or severe complications. However, the surgery was conducted on March 10,” Sambaiah’s wife, Tallapalli Tirupatamma, said in the complaint. She further stated that, following the operation, Sambaiah was shifted to a general ward instead of the ICU. Within a short time, severe bleeding from the surgical site was noticed, necessitating another emergency surgery. “He was later shifted to the ICU, where scans revealed a massive stroke. His condition worsened, with reported brain damage increasing from 50% to 90% despite further procedures, and he eventually died from brain failure, despite 20 minutes of CPR being administered,” she added.Demanding strict action against the hospital, the family also asked the police to investigate whether medical protocols were violated and whether the Bhadratha Scheme was misused during the treatment.Based on a complaint filed by Tirupatamma, the Madhapur police registered a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the BNSS.Meanwhile, a source from Yashoda Hospitals told TOI, “There was no wrongdoing or procedural lapse on our part. This will be established in a court of law if the case proceeds.”
