Chandigarh: An FIR has been registered in an assault case in Gurdaspur involving an elderly couple, with police stating that due procedure was followed before initiating action.Leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa said the matter involved the parents of an Army jawan posted in Jammu and Kashmir, who had approached authorities seeking action after the alleged assault in Kiri Afghana village in Qadian constituency. Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police Aditya confirmed the FIR. Earlier, Bajwa had alled a delay in the registration of the FIR. However, the SSP denied it. The SSP maintained that police were processing the complaint and were awaiting the medico-legal report (MLR) and recording of statements before lodging the FIR. Kahnuwan SHO Gurnam Singh said the incident arose out of a dispute between neighbours over installation of a gate on an old wall. He added that both parties were admitted to hospital and had initially indicated the possibility of a compromise.Police said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to causing hurt and common intention, based on a complaint by Kartar Chand against Mast Ram and others.Further investigation is underway.
