Nagpur: In a move aimed at strengthening India’s logistics backbone and accelerating industrial growth in central India, the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) signed an agreement with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) to develop a multimodal logistics park in the Mihan Special Economic Zone.Under the agreement, 19.92 acres of land have been allocated to the Central Warehousing Corporation within the Mihan-SEZ area. The project will house advanced, technology-driven warehousing infrastructure designed to handle a wide range of cargo, alongside integrated connectivity across road, rail and air networks to enable faster movement of goods.Officials said the facility will include modern storage systems and cold chain infrastructure for perishable goods and pharmaceuticals, a segment increasingly critical to global supply chains. Being located within a Special Economic Zone, the park will also offer single-window customs clearance, streamlining import-export processes and reducing transit delays.Positioned at the geographic centre of India, Nagpur has long been viewed as a strategic logistics hub. The development of the park is expected to further enhance this positioning by lowering logistics costs and improving supply chain efficiency — priorities that align with broader national efforts to strengthen manufacturing competitiveness and global trade integration.“This project will not only benefit Nagpur but will act as a catalyst for the state’s economy,” officials said, describing it as a ‘game changer’ in achieving coordinated logistics development between central and state agencies. The project is also expected to generate jobs across logistics, supply chain and allied services, offering opportunities for local youth.
