Navi Mumbai: A 17-year-old girl who had been battling for life after a horrific late-night crash on Palm Beach Road earlier this month has died after 16 days in hospital, turning the case into one of culpable homicide and intensifying the probe into the role of two SUV drivers. Harman Kaur, a resident of Koparkhairane, succumbed to her injuries at Dr DY Patil Hospital in Nerul on March 19. She had been in the ICU since the March 3 accident, in which her friend Prashant Jamdade (24), who was riding the bike, died on the spot.Police said the duo was returning home after Holika Dahan celebrations when the accident occurred around 3am near Kesar Solitaire building in Sector 19, Sanpada. The bike allegedly skidded and hit the road median railing on a curved stretch between Sarsole junction and Moraj signal, throwing both riders onto the road. Investigations revealed that two SUVs passing behind ran over the victims. Forensic teams found blood stains on the underbodies of the vehicles, leading to the detention of drivers Sagar Sanda (23) and Krishna Ravaria (20), both from Ghansoli. While Jamdade was decapitated, Kaur sustained severe injuries to her head and limbs. Doctors treating her said that her legs were crushed due to a vehicle running over her, informed investigating officer PSI Amol Munde of Sanpada police station. Originally registered as a hit-and-run, the case now names both SUV drivers as accused. A chargesheet will be filed in Belapur court, police said
