Patna: A 26-year-old woman from Bhagalpur, who had been living with her friend in Patna while preparing for competitive examinations, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in their rented flat on Saturday. The incident occurred at Veer Kunwar Singh Path under the Sri Krishna Puri police station area.According to police, the woman, who was preparing for a govt job, had been in a relationship with one Piyush Kumar for over a year. The couple had plans to get married and their families were scheduled to meet soon.Piyush, who works in a private company, said everything appeared normal on the night of the incident. “We ate dinner together, and I went to my room around 11pm. She was listening to music loudly, and I asked her to keep the volume low, but she didn’t respond. When I went to her room, she didn’t open the door. I had to break it open in the morning, and that’s when I saw her hanging from the fan,” he said.Police sent the body for post-mortem examination and said they were waiting for the statement of the woman’s family before deciding on further action.The two had met in Patna earlier when both were studying at a coaching institute. When they discovered that both were from Bhagalpur, they grew close to each other. Later, Piyush got a private job and discontinued his studies.The rented flat where the death occurred had initially been taken by Piyush. At that time, the woman was living in a different flat. Later, she started living with him.“We are investigating the matter and will take action based on the post-mortem report and the family’s statement,” said Secretariat SDPO-2 Saket Kumar.
