Hisar: In a swift action, the Hisar police arrested a private bus driver for allegedly stealing around 40 kilograms of silver worth nearly Rs 65 lakh from a passenger, and recovered the entire consignment within 24 hours. The accused was identified as Satpal, a resident of Arniyawali village in Sirsa district. According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Mayank Mudgil, an FIR was registered at Agroha police station on Thursday based on a complaint filed by Ravindra, a resident of Agroha. He stated that he runs a silver jewellery shop in Fatehabad. As per the complaint, on the night of March 18, around 11 pm, Rajesh Sharma, a resident of Mathura, was travelling on a private bus operated by Vijay Travels. He was carrying 39 kg 844 grams of silver in his bag. On the morning of March 19, at around 6 am, when Rajesh Sharma reached Agroha, he discovered that his bag had been stolen during the journey. He immediately dialled 112 and informed the police. A joint team of Hisar Police Special Staff and Agroha police station launched an investigation. During questioning, Rajesh Sharma expressed suspicion about the bus driver. Acting on this lead, police tracked the accused through his mobile number and apprehended him from Hisar bus stand. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was working as a private bus driver for the past two to three months. He noticed that Rajesh Sharma frequently travelled with silver and planned the theft in advance. On March 19, when the bus stopped at a petrol pump, Rajesh Sharma got down to use the restroom. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused stole the bag and hid it in bushes on the other side of the road. The police later recovered the entire stolen silver based on his disclosure.
