Coimbatore: The city police on Thursday arrested two ambulance drivers for peddling ganja and seized 3kg contraband from them.A police officer identified the arrested duo as M Sundaramahalingam, 29, of Sivaganga district, who was staying in a rental house at Highways Colony in Coimbatore city, and S Musthafa, 28, of South Ukkadam. Both were working as drivers for a private ambulance service. According to the officer, the duo were involved in procuring ganja and methamphetamine from suppliers and selling the same to local people. “The two are also in the habit of consuming drugs. We conducted a search at the rental house of Sundaramahalingam on Thursday based on a specific tip about the duo’s involvement in drug peddling.” During the search, police found 3kg of ganja and 0.48g of methamphetamine in the house. They subsequently registered a case against Sundaramahalingam and Musthafa under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, arrested the duo and produced them before a judicial magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody. Further investigation is under way.
