Kanpur: The city got some much-needed relief from the heat on Friday, with light drizzle spreading across the division. The city saw intermittent drizzle till afternoon, with an overcast sky throughout the day.The maximum temperature was recorded at 22.4 degrees Celsius — 8.4 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature stood at 18.8 degrees C, 4.2 degrees above normal. Relative humidity levels rose significantly, reaching 80 per cent.According to the India Meteorological Department, rainfall was forecast across much of the country, including the Kanpur division. Although the sky was clear on Thursday night, cloud cover began increasing after midnight, turning dense by morning. Some areas also experienced hailstorms.The IMD has indicated that the region may continue to witness mild sunshine along with dense cloud cover. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain below normal, with the possibility of light showers accompanied by strong winds.Weather expert Dr S Sunil Pandey from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology said that light drizzle may persist until noon. He added that northwesterly winds could pick up speed, ranging between 1 and 6 kmph in the afternoon.“As the clouds clear and sunlight increases, temperatures are likely to rise in the coming days, with a possible increase of 3–4 degrees,” he said.He also advised farmers to temporarily suspend threshing activities for a couple of days and resume once the sky clears.
