Navi Mumbai: A six-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool at a private resort off Nagaon beach in Alibag taluka on Thursday while his family stepped away to their room for a short while to change out of their wet clothes. There was no guard or staffer around. Alibag police inspector Kishor Sale said an accidental death report has been filed and a probe is underway.Rohit Patil, wife Asmita, their son Rishank and a relative from Ambepur Malyan village in the taluka went to Sea Sight Resort, which is owned by a family friend. The family swam in the pool for some time and left Rishank near it when they went to change their clothes. Rohit reportedly returned within minutes but couldn’t find his son. He then noticed the child floating in the pool. Rishank was pulled out of the water and rushed to Alibag civil hospital, where he was declared dead. Around four to five such drowning cases have been reported in swimming pools of private resorts in Alibag and Murud talukas in the last two years. —Umesh K Parida
