Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has expressed its inclination to form a committee to ensure coordination among various departments for the conservation of the Dravyavati River. Agreeing with the suggestions of the amicus curiae, the court observed that issuing direct directions in a public interest litigation (PIL) for forming such a body may amount to interference in the executive’s domain.A division bench of Acting Chief Justice SP Sharma and Justice BS Sandhu asked the advocate general to consider constituting a committee comprising representatives of concerned departments. The court also directed that an additional advocate general be authorised to present the state’s stand in the matter. The state govt has been asked to submit its reply by April 28.During the hearing, amicus curiae Shobhit Tiwadi pointed out serious concerns, including the discharge of untreated water into the river, illegal pumping for agricultural use in Goner, and a shortage of resources at sewage treatment plants (STPs) and the riverfront. He further highlighted that substandard treatment at the Dravyavati plant is affecting the water quality of Chandlai Dam.The PIL, filed by PN Maindola, challenges encroachments and illegal constructions along the river, alleging that pollution has severely damaged its original form and calling for its restoration.
