Kanpur: A man allegedly murdered his wife by attacking her with a chisel, in Ursaan village under Derapur police station area of Kanpur Dehat, on Wednesday night. The accused, Rajat Kashyap, was arrested by police on Thursday. The accused was in an inebriated state when he attacked his wife, Mithilesh, police said.Mithilesh was married to Rajat Kashyap from the same village around 9 years ago. The couple often used to quarrel due to Rajat’s liquor addiction. On Wednesday night, when Rajat returned after consuming liquor the couple again had a fight. In a fit of rage, Rajat attacked her with a vasula (wood-shaving chisel) killing her on the spot. On being informed, Derapur police station personnel reached the spot on Thursday morning and initiated an investigation. CO Rajeev Sirohi said the accused has been arrested and the body was sent for postmortem. The chisel used in the crime has been seized by the police.Mithilesh’s brother Ravi Kumar, a resident of Bhara Purwa under Roora police station area, filed a written complaint at Derapur police station on Thursday. tnn
