Jaipur: Rajasthan police’s Special Operations Group has identified nearly 2,000 suspected dummy candidates using AI-enabled software to detect impersonators in govt recruitment exams, a long-running problem in the state.Additional DGP (SOG) Vishal Bansal said the system can detect people who appeared in exams in place of original applicants. “The software is designed to identify and flag dummy candidates with a high degree of accuracy,” he said.In Rajasthan, candidates must complete a one-time registration through the single sign-on portal to appear in any government examination. The rule applies to all public employment exams conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission and the Rajasthan Subordinate and Ministerial Services Selection Board. As part of the registration process, candidates must upload on-the-spot photographs and submit multiple credentials while applying.Bansal said the SOG has linked the software with the state’s SSO and OTR databases, creating a pool of more than 45 lakh candidate profiles. “Each profile contains photographs, signatures and other credential details submitted during exam applications,” he said. The software uses facial recognition to compare suspected impersonators against this database. It can scan lakhs of images within minutes and flag matches even when appearance has changed.“Even when original applicants try to mislead investigators by claiming they do not know who appeared on their behalf, the system analyses the database and also cross-checks attendance sheets signed in the examination hall,” Bansal said.He said the technology has significantly improved the agency’s ability to track impersonation networks. According to Bansal, the tool has helped the SOG compile a list of nearly 2,000 suspected dummy candidates. “It has identified individuals even in cases where attempts were made to conceal identity,” he said.Officials said the system is now being used to re-examine past recruitment exams, which could lead to further action. It is also being used extensively in the Senior Teacher Recruitment Exam 2022, where multiple impersonation cases were reported.
