Kolkata: Before the announced publication of supplementary list by Saturday, voters placed under adjudication in the city have started calling up their BLOs and enquiring how to check their names.Till Thursday night, 25 lakh cases have been cleared. EC sources said data for only 7,000 booths have been received. The rest are pending which may delay list publication, sources indicated. This has pushed voters, who have been exercising their franchise for long, to anxiety over whether their names would make it to the roll following judicial scrutiny. Some of them have decided to stay glued to the Election Commission of India‘s website to access the list to know the final outcome of their SIR battle.Multiple meetings chaired by the Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, first with the state police top brass and then with the Bengal CEO Manoj Aggarwal, were held on Thursday ahead of the publication of the first supplementary voter list for a section of 60 lakh Bengal voters placed under “judicial scrutiny”. The meetings were aimed at taking stock of the law and order arrangements. The EC earlier indicated that the first supplementary list will be published either on Friday or Saturday. It has not made it clear where the voters can access it. Earlier, on Thursday morning, Bengal home secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh, DGP SN Gupta, Kolkata Police commissioner Ajay Nand and ADG (law and order) Ajey Mukund Ranade met Chief Justice Paul for around 30 minutes. Around noon, the officers, along with CS Dushyant Nariyala, called on Governor RN Ravi for 30 minutes. Later in the evening, Aggarwal too met the CJ.Gouri Aich, an elector from Bhowanipore, was told during her hearing at Survey Building that her logical discrepancy would be sorted out against documents she submitted. “On Feb 28, I found that my name was under adjudication and the BLO could not tell me the reason. Since the BLO is the only link person for the exercise, I called her up this morning to know about the supplementary list that may be published on Friday. The BLO assured me of informing me if she finds my name there,” said Aich.Anubhav Das, an MBBS student at SSKM and a resident of Ballygunge, has decided to keep an eye on the ECI’s website. “I did not get any hearing call regarding logical discrepancy but found my name under adjudication. The BLO collected my passport copies and those of my parents. Though there is no clarity as to when the supplementary list will be out, I will keep an eye on ECI’s website,” he said.Soma Sadhukan, a voter under adjudication from Alipore, said, “I am living in the city since 1961 but this time I could not clear the SIR test. I am waiting for the judicial scrutiny to approve me as an eligible voter and I am waiting for the supplementary list.”
