Mapusa: Mopa airport police arrested three men from Belagavi and seized a Karnataka-registered vehicle for allegedly illegal transportation of cattle. Police said Gous Fakaruddhin Nadaf (40), Altaf Ibrahim Kadrolli (42), and the vehicle owner, Iqbal Babusab Talikoti, have been arrested. The accused were intercepted on Wednesday near the Amar Crusher Plant in Casarvarnem, after a tip-off by locals monitoring suspicious vehicular movement in the area for weeks.Around 2.15am, locals Shubham Keni and Kundan Parab noticed the goods vehicle. Though recent livestock disappearances were blamed on leopards, after stopping the vehicle near the govt hospital, locals found 14 cattle crammed inside without food or water. Locals said the animals were being transported for slaughter.A complaint was lodged by Vinod Sawant, and an FIR has been registered under sections of BNS, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the transport of animals rules.
