Itanagar: With the southwest monsoon arriving early in Arunachal Pradesh, the District Disaster Management Authority in the Itanagar Capital Region has issued a strict advisory asking residents to take immediate precautions against heavy rain, strong winds and possible flooding.ICR deputy commissioner Toko Babu, who also chairs the DDMA, called for heightened public vigilance, according to an official report issued on Thursday. “The monsoon brings heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential risks to life and property, but with adequate preparation, we can minimize its impact. “The general public is advised to strictly follow these measures to avert any untoward incidents,” the official said.The advisory asked residents to avoid flooded areas, waterlogged roads, drains and streams, warning that currents can turn dangerous without notice. People were also told not to drive or walk through low-lying areas and to remain indoors during heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds unless travel is essential.Authorities directed residents to keep emergency helpline numbers accessible, protect electrical appliances from water exposure and avoid touching electric poles, wires or damaged infrastructure during and after rainfall. People living in flood-prone and low-lying areas were asked to remain alert and move to safer locations if instructed by officials.The deputy commissioner also advised households to clear drains and water channels to reduce waterlogging, avoid taking shelter under trees, poles or temporary structures during storms, and keep essential supplies ready, including drinking water, medicines, flashlights and batteries.“Pay close attention to weather advisories from the administration and report incidents like flooding, fallen trees, damaged poles, or blocked drains immediately,” he added.The DDMA said residents should contact authorities or control rooms without delay in the event of emergencies or signs of possible disaster.The warning comes as parts of Itanagar and the wider capital region have already seen early waterlogging after pre-monsoon showers, highlighting the urgency ahead of the peak monsoon season.
